Welcome to free desktop backgrounds page, these desktop pictures are free to download and use for personal use. Those wanting to use my free desktop backgrounds for commercial purposes, please contact me first.

To download and use these free desktop backgrounds all you need to do is follow these simple instructions.

Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7
1. Click on the image to view the larger version.

2. Right click on the image and select “set as background” from the menu.

All versions of Windows
1. Click on the image to view the larger version.

2. Right click on the image and select “Save As”. Save the image in a folder on your PC, something like c:\desktop

3. Go to your desktop and right click on the desktop and select Personalize.

4. Select desktop background, browse to where you saved the images and then select the images you wish to use.

5. Click apply.

Taken close to Sunset on the Ayrshire coast of Scotland this is Ailsa Craig an island of 99 hectares in the outer Firth of Clyde and is about 10 miles (16 Km) from the mainland. Home to Blue hone granite which was used to make curling stones.

Wheal Owles is part of the Botallack mining complex close to St Just and Pendeen on the beautiful Penwith heritage coast in West Cornwall. Wheal Owles is now more famous as Wheal Leisure in the BBC series Poldark and the area is used to film part of the Poldark series.

These 30 metre high sculptures of horse heads wont be appearing in anyones bed in a hurry. Standing next to the Clyde Canal and designed by Andy Scott were opened in 2013.

Bosley cloud, or “the cloud” as its also known is a hill rising some 175 metres from the Cheshire plain near Congleton and offers amazing views over Cheshire, Macclesfield and over Manchester towards Winter hill.

Dinorwic Quarry was once a prominent slate quarry close to the village of Llanberis in Gwynedd. It is now abandoned but the landscape here is amazing and the quarry climbs up Elidir Fach from around 120 metres to 795 metres. There are more photos here of Dinorwic quarry.

  1. Love Cornwall and your photos of it are beautiful, especially like the Jubliee Pool at Penzance but Wheal Owles are my top favourites.
