Japanese Specification Subaru Forester T/tb, 2 litre turbo
Here is a vague list of the specifications for the Subaru Forester T/tb. I say vague as nobody seems to have a definative list of specifications for this model and even though I have looked at numerous japanese sites for the figures I still cant find a definative answer.
So heres a disclaimer, disclaiming the accuracy of the numbers below and I cant be held responsible if they are incorrect.
The specification for the T/tb and S/tb are pretty much the same, the T/tb comes with a fake wood dash and a different interior fabric than the S/tb. Typically the S/tb will have a red, blue and grey flecks on a black background where as the T/tb will comes with black and grey patterns on light grey fabric.
Specifications: Subaru Forester T/tb (Touring turbo model)
Please note: if you are looking at buying a Subaru Forester and see a T/tb advertised then as a Twin Turbo, then this is utter crap. Subaru never put a twin turbo engine in the Forester. The engine in the import Foresters is the same as that found in the WRX and is an EJ20 using a TD04H turbo.
Engine Engine Type: Flat Four - DOHC 16v turbo (EJ20) Engine Capacity: 1994 cc Power Output: 250 bhp / 6250 rpm (to Japanese standards, with UK super unleaded, probably 220bhp) Torque: 229 lbft / 4000 rpm Transmission: 4 speed AT (4wd) or 5 speed MT (4wd)
Performance Acceleration: (0-62 mph / 0-100kph): 6.6 sec Max Speed: 112mph (Electronically Limited to 180kph - Its Japanese law)
Imports converted to MPH will have had this removed. (This is done by changing the signal going to the speedo from KPH to MPH by adding a divider of 1.6 (KPH divided by 1.6 = MPH, ie: 100kph / 1.6 = 62mph) this is usually done via a mechanical or electronic device which fools the ecu into thinking its not doing the 112mph limit, thats why Jap import typically have speedos which read 180mph).
Dimensions & Weight (in mm & kg) Exterior dimensions (LxWxH): 4450 x 1735 x 1580 mm Interior dimensions (LxWxH): 1745 x 1435 x 1245 mm Wheel base: 2525 mm Ground clearance: 200 mm Vehicle weight: 1410 kg
PLEASE NOTE: if you have a specific question about this model then it maybe better to ask it on the Subaru Forester Forums. Specifically in the European section. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f75/

Taking a UK Subaru to NZ
We are hoping to emigrate to NZ 2012 and plan to buy either an Outback or Forester. With the current rate of exchange they are cheaper in the UK. Are there any differences between UK & NZ specification other than the speedo?

Have a look at Subaruforester.org for info on this. Cant tell you what there like in NZ as never been there.

T/tb partially seized!!!!!
Any suggestions gratefully received.....I partially seized my T/tb recently, my better half has removed all of the bits necessary to lift the engine but it will not separate from the transmission!!! The oil drained clean, the turbo is A1, but there is a slight noise from the turbo side of the engine??? We think that it was running too lean........
mykp says:
sorry debs cant help as I always take mine to my local subaru specialist. with the low prices he charges I wont even bother getting my hands dirty.

T/tb fuel pump
I have the 97 T/tb appears that the fuel pump packed in worst time Cypriot garages closed 2 weeks got mechanic never used before claims had to drop fuel tank to get to pump which I have my doubts about would this need to be done? Have ordered a Walbro 255 (GSS341) uprated fuel pump would this do the job ok ? Thanks, Sean

Sean
Heard this from mechanics myself as well, (you need to drop the tank) but you don’t have to drop the tank as there is a hatch on the top. Remove the boot floor including all the padding and just behind the back seats is an inspection panel. Unbolt it and remove and that’s the top of the petrol tank. There is another panel on here and once removed the fuel pump is underneath this panel and will come out with the panel.
If the mechanic didnt know this they obvuisly know nothing about Subarus so would suggest you try elsewhere!
It’s a diy job for a compitent diyer but shouldn’t take more than 1 hour for even the most inept mechanic.
The walbro is a good replacement and is what I have in mine.

how much power can the ttb handle
hi
i have a 99 ttb import and want to know what sort of power i can expect with some simple mods ie what to change to get 300hp
mykp says:
the t/tb is auto only and cant be remapped so mods are limited.
Exhaust, impretza header, replament up-pipe, decent panel fiter, uprated fuel pump, HDI-SBC (to up the boost) should see about 290!

Wheel Alignment specifications
Hello,
I have the 1997 Forester Turbo (SF5) which is a TTB exactly like yours imported from Japan.
Do you by any chance have the wheel alignment specification for this. I went to an ATS and they told me I had to go to Subaru or search on the internet.
Cheers
mykp says:
any good wheel alignment centre which does proper Geometry setup, not laser wheel alignment should have them and be able to advise on how to setup your car. Do a search for "Hunter wheel alignment" or visit Pro Align and search for your local centre.
ATS, National or Kwik fit I wouldnt touch with a barge pole!

Subaru Forester T/tb 1997
Hi,
I had one of these, made contact with a professor at Tokio University, who was clued up on them.
Apparently there was 2 engine types, one at 250 and the other at 285 by Japanese measurements.
I sent him my engine number and he told me mine was the 285 one.
Regrettably I have now sold it because it was too expensive to run needing 98 octane and also an octane booster to get it up to 100 for the best performance.
Was great fun though.
Fred
mykp says:
Yep, and the way the Japanese measure bhp is different, So I am told!!!
If you had an auto then you d have been alright running on super, tesco or shell v-power. A manual can be remapped to run on super or even normal unleaded but this means less power and who would want that?
