Kodak DC210+
I have owned my DC 210 Plus since Sept 1998, which I bought on a trip to Japan. Having paid just 40,000 yen about £200 at the time (I refuse to pay the price of electronics in the UK, too expensive) I am very impressed with the images it produces.
Okay the images aren´t as good as a traditional camera, but for its time the images are good enough for small prints and for web work. Most of the images in the Japan section of the site were taken with the DC210+.
Holding the DC210 plus feels nice as the body is coated in rubber in all the right places so that a firm hold can be achieved. However for such as small camera it is quite heavy especially as it takes 4 AA batteries.
To take a picture you just point the camera and press the button. Everything is taken care of. Although in low light conditions the exposure can be put up to increase the light entering the CCD. If you make a mistake or the picture isn´t what you wanted, just delete it..
Image size is 1152 x 864 x 72dpi. You can get roughly 25 images on an 8 meg compact flash card. If you can get an extra memory card is well worth the money.
Now that I have been using the camera for some time, and as of March 2002 have taken close to 7000 images, I can say that the camera is very strong and rugged, I have dropped it on a number of occasions and it still works, perfectly. Its quite portable but not light, but this is due to its strong construction and its age compared with modern digtal cameras.
My only major complaint about the DC210 plus is the battery life. Even with the newer firmware update this camera can destroy normal batteries at 4 per 25 pictures, but if your using NiMH batteries then you can expect to treble this number of pictures per set of 4 batteries.
What I have found with the DC210 Plus is that is your taking night time shots of landscapes then its best to use NO flash as the flash will distort your view. (This is true of all the digital cameras I´ve used)
In general the DC210 Plus is a very hard, rugged camera which would be ideal for the outdoor person where a normal camera might get damaged easily. Don´t expect superb quality pictures as this is only a 1 mega pixel camera. Do expect a reliable hard working camera which will last you quite a long time.
