So after you´ve taken your images where are you going to store them? Well, however you store them you are going to need some type of computer to look/edit them in the near future.

I know that you can get your images put onto CD nowadays but you will need a PC to look at them in the future unless you DVD supports VCD format which is the norm for storage of digital images. The other is Kodak CD which some DVD units may support.

If you want to take digital photography seriously then you will need a computer, not only will it allow you to store images but it will allow you to do other things with them as well.

So what kind of computer should you buy? Well, how long is a piece of string? There are several computers you could buy and all have their own unique attributes and foibles but the most important piece of advise I can give you is make sure that the one you choose is capable of doing the job you require.

What do I mean by that? Well, you will need a fairly powerful machine if you wish to do photo manipulation, other than that just make sure the machine is right for you. Smaller independant shops will usually be more helpful than the large stores who just want to shift boxes.

Another thing to bear in mind is storage space. Digital images take up a lot of space. Even a smaller camera will use around 1 meg per 4 images. So disk space can get a little bit sparce if you take lots of pictures. So a CD Writer maybe a good bet to back your images up onto. Thus allowing you to delete them off your machine freeing up valuable disk space.

As I said before most computers these days are much the same but remember that you must make sure that your camera can connect to the machine you buy. A camera that comes with a PC only lead might require an additional lead to connect to a Mac (which requires extra money) or may not connect to a Mac at all. A lead isnt the only thing you need to connect your camera to your computer!

If you are thinking of purchasing a computer or a camera then you must make sure that they will work together. The other option is to buy a memory card reader as detailed above.

If you dont understand what I mean then my older camera a Kodak DC210 Plus will not connect to my new PC as the operating system is Windows XP. Fortunately, I have a card reader that allows me to still get the images off the memory card.
