PC World
PC World is great, but I wouldn´t buy anything from them, unless I absolutely needed too..
Why I hear you ask. Well for a start the reason I wouldn´t buy from them is their more expensive than the local computer shop, who is a little one man operation. So much for the power of bulk buying! However the reason I think PC World is great is listed below.
The first thing is they have all the latest technology setup and working and you can just wonder in and look and spend as much time playing (and usually trying to break) the toys they have on display. If one of the spotty little sales men/women comes over and says the immortal lines "Can I help you sir" (Smug grin) you can usually get rid of him/her by saying something technical or asking him/her a technical question. This will confuse him/her and they will wonder off feeling dazed, rubbing their head and looking extremely confused! (I´ve yet to meet a sales person at PC world who knows anything about anything)
The reason I like to play with new technology is to get an idea of how robust/how easy to use etc.. the product is.
I then normally go the the local shop and buy it there.
The second reason is books.
PC World have a very good collection of software related books and they always have a copy unwrapped. You´ll be amazed at how much of a book you can read whilst your wife is shopping, in the other stores nearby. :)
Again, if I want the book I go home, log onto BOL.com or Amazon.co.uk and buy it there. Usually three or four trips is enough for me to read a 200 page book.
Don´t get me wrong I have bought books from here but only because I needed them in a hurry!
PC world might be good for the novice user who wants support more than value for money but for the average user it gets avoided like the plague. If you want good technical knowledge stick to your local PC shop, you´ll nearly always get better support and pricing than this computer supermarket giant.
