Dinorwig Quarry, near Llanberis, Gwynedd, Wales

Dinorwig Quarry is former slate quarry close to the town of Llanberis in Wales at the foot of Snowdon.

If you ever get the chance to visit then jump at it as this place is a time capsule of the former slate industry in Wales with most of the buildings, equipment and machinery still in place above 350metres, no doubt down to the logistics of removing them from so high up. The quarry rises from 110m to 610m above sea level and in places is very steep and very dangerous.

Here’s some images of Dinorwig quarry taken in 2012.

  1. Some great photography, being a climber I have visited the Slate Quarry many times over the years. Real atmosphere of an age gone by.

    1. Thanks Davie,

Last time I was there I spent a full weekend up there and camped at about 800m, close to the top reservoir. Didn’t see another soul until I got back down near the footpath. Bliss!
