Fines For Cold Callers Using Withheld Numbers

From 16 May 2016 there could be Fines for Cold Callers Using Withheld numbers of over £2m!

All direct marketing companies, registered in the UK, must display a caller ID or phone numbers when making unsolicited calls to individuals and businesses alike EVEN IF the call centre is located outside of the UK.

Ofcom have announced that their fines will be capped at a soaring £2 million. Companies also face a further £500,000 fine from the Information Commissioner’s Office if they continue to bombard customers with unwanted calls.

This new directive gives people the power to decide if they wish to answer the call and also makes reporting harassment a lot easier when they can easily identify the company calls are originating from.

“Ofcom estimates that every year UK consumers receive approximately 4.8 billion nuisance calls, 1.7 billion live sales calls, 1.5 billion silent calls, 940 million recorded sales messages and 200 million abandoned calls.”

The message from the government and ICO is clear. Unsolicited calls from marketing companies will no longer be tolerated. The changes will make it easier to investigate and prosecute these companies.”

About f-ing time! is what I say as a business owner I get loads from Private number or Unknown number. Sadly private clients use call barring as well so I usually answer.
